 9 am – 11 am.  Keynote Presentation:  How To Negotiate

 

          The purpose of negotiation; power; risk taking; persuasive capacity;

           Attitude, preparation and information; concession; the adversarial approach;

            intimidation; the “walk away” method; other strategies.

9:30 – 10 am.   Greetings from AMTCO -  Connie Mesih, CGA, CMTP, Manager, Property Taxation & Assessment, City of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, President, Association of Municipal Tax Collectors of Ontario (AMTCO)

 

10  am  - noon:   “Retirement Planning”

 2:30 – 4 pm.  Taxability of Various Abatements (new regulations in effect for

           volunteer fire and ambulance  personnel, etc.); also, Backup Withholding

           Taxes, Reporting Requirements for Subcontractors; & Related Issues

 

           Presented by Government Specialist Mary Rogers, U.S. Internal Revenue Service,

           Syracuse, New York (regional office covering NY, CT and RI)

 

Tuesday evening:  20th anniversary cocktail party /  reception on location at the resort

 

           Hot and cold hors d’ oeuvres; carving stations; complimentary beer and wine, etc.

9 – 10 am.  Panel Presentation:  Recent changes in local government acceptance of “face to face” credit card transactions

 

         Presented by: invited representatives from various credit card companies. Several of these companies have recently changed their policies for how fees are charged in face to face transactions at governmental agencies such as tax offices.  Learn what these changes are, and you may decide to revisit what credit card payment options you offer to your taxpayers.

 

10 – 11 am.    P.A.C.E.R. – Public Access to Court Electronic Records 

 

          Presented by Patricia Turin, CTC, Tax Collection Specialist, State of New Jersey Division of Local Government Services; and Joseph Regatts, CTC, Lacey Township, NJ

 

11 - 11:30 am.  Swearing in of new officers; door prize drawing; close of conference & check out of hotel .     Take a boxed lunch with you on your journey home!
